  • A Week on Texel

    A Week on Texel

In April 2026 I was lucky enough to spend a whole week on the famous bird island of Texel – a very special holiday on which the island's stunning nature captivated and fascinated me again and again. From avocets in the first morning light through displaying pheasants and singing bluethroats to a spoonbill at dusk, the island was one great bird paradise.

  • Bearded Vultures on the Gemmi

    Bearded Vultures on the Gemmi

To round off the year, I was able to fulfil a long-held wish – photographing bearded vultures on the Gemmi Pass. It was incredibly cold and uncomfortable, but it was worth waiting until the very end. Besides the vulture, I was also able to photograph the alpine chough and the alpine accentor.

  • Holiday on Zingst

    Holiday on Zingst

Together with my wife and fellow photographers Jochen Keller and Benjamin Feldmann, I spent autumn on the Darß and in Zingst capturing the deer rut. White-tailed eagles, cranes and more also impressed me greatly – and on the drive there I finally got a wonderful goldfinch shot at a sunflower field.

  • A Holiday in the Saas Valley

A Holiday in the Saas Valley

I spent my two-week summer holiday in the village I was always allowed to visit as a little boy – Saas-Grund. The mighty four-thousand-metre peaks all around have always impressed me, and returning to this place as a nature photographer was especially rewarding. Besides a few butterflies I was able to photograph on a quiet morning, I also got to experience some very special moments at Kreuzboden, where common swifts shot into the water to drink at breathtaking speed.

On a beautiful summer's day I was out with my camera together with my fellow photographer Gamander Lopez in my home region. We spent several hours at the Bislicher Inseln and, after sunset, even managed to find a little owl!

    Rheinaue Bonn

On a cool, grey November day I met up with my fellow photographers and friends Gamander Lopez and Jonas Haubrich at the Rheinaue in Bonn – a public park with plenty of opportunities to photograph the bird species that live in parks. The ring-necked parakeets were a particular focus, as they roost together in large numbers in a few trees at night, and the spectacle of them flying in to their roosting trees was truly impressive.

  • Niagara Region

    Niagara Region

For two weeks I was able to make a business trip to Beamsville on Lake Ontario in Canada. I had plenty of time right after work and was out in nature almost every evening. All the bird species were new to me, but I learned quickly. On Lake Ontario itself I spent a lot of time at Charles Daley Park. A colleague also invited me to his home, where a hummingbird appeared in the garden and I was able to take truly dream shots. On a day off I also drove to a bird sanctuary, where I managed to capture photos of the osprey and many other species. All in all I am very happy with the yield of photos. Among the gear I brought was the ultra-light Nikkor Z 600mm 6.3 VR S, which spared me a lot of weight.

    Katwijk

Before my trip to Canada I spent a relaxed day with my family on the North Sea coast. My camera came along, of course – and it was to pay off. On the beach I was able to spot and photograph some herring gulls and common terns. In the afternoon a kestrel was hunting in the dunes.

Together with my esteemed fellow photographers Jochen Keller and Benjamin Feldmann, I headed to the Dutch Wadden Sea coast on a hot late-summer day, where I was able to photograph snipe, water rail and wood sandpiper decently for the first time.
