Alpine Accentor
Prunella collaris
In winter the Alpine accentor often turns up at ski huts, mountain hotels and villages to look for food. Its breeding life is unusual: several males and females form a group in which males often help feed the young in more than one nest.

- Alpine meadows, rocky slopes and scree above the treeline; in winter also lower slopes and the surroundings of mountain huts.
- Diet
- Mainly insects, their larvae and spiders in summer; largely plant seeds in winter, plus berries in spring and autumn.
- When to see
- Present in high mountains all year. A partial migrant: some birds probably winter in southern Europe, others merely move to lower elevations in winter.
