Black-headed Gull
Chroicocephalus ridibundus
The “black” hood is actually chocolate brown and is worn only in breeding plumage – in winter all that remains is a dark spot behind the eye. In flight it is identified by the white wedge along the leading edge of the outer wing.

- Present in Central Europe all year. Many local birds are partial migrants, and in winter they are joined by visitors from northern and eastern Europe.
