Golden Eagle
Aquila chrysaetos
A breeding pair usually has several eyries in its territory, which it uses alternately over many years. Young golden eagles are recognisable by white patches in the wings and a white tail with a broad black terminal band; they only reach adult plumage after five to seven years.

- Resident in Central Europe and seen year-round; courtship with striking display flights begins as early as January.
